Ensuring access to clean water and sanitation for all is an essential element of the world we want to live in. There is sufficient fresh water on the planet to achieve this, but some 663 million people are still without this and at least 1.8 billion people globally use a source of drinking water that is contaminated.
Due to bad economics or poor infrastructure, every year millions of people, most of them children, die from diseases associated with inadequate water supply, sanitation and hygiene.
Fresh water is a most precious resource and is under mounting pressure from growing domestic demand, economic activities, urban development and climate change. The chemical industry is working on water purification technologies and advanced water management systems that can ensure safe and affordable drinking water and adequate sanitation for all.
